The Drummond Collection

In 1879 a large, limited edition volume of facsimile lithographic prints of the original drawings by James Drummond, RSA, was published under the title of ‘Old Edinburgh’. At the time the ancient heart of Edinburgh Old Town was about to undergo considerable development as the ancient buildings were deemed unsafe and unfit for human habitation. Thankfully, Drummond captured many places that were subsequently lost. The images offered for sale here are from a book badly damaged by lack of care – it was beyond saving as a viable book. The beautiful prints fortunately avoided damage and are now offered for sale here.
